Winter Lovin

I can't believe it has been so stinkin' long since I have not only posted but made a cake!! For an update we are still in limbo as far as where we are going to live.  Everything is still packed so of course that makes all things caking difficult.  It is my new years resolution to get back on top of creating and posting.  I still love love love making cakes so motivation is definitely not a problem ;)

Congrats Sally and Zach (pictured here with my only December cake)!! They recently got engaged and luckily I was able to find out about it before he popped the question.  I was able to surprise them with this cake on the same day as their engagement. They are such a cute couple and I absolutely love this picture.

I wanted the cake to be simple but cute so I opted to try out my piping skills again with this design.  I really love how it looks and will work on getting the dots more uniform and in straighter lines next time.  Red and pink do happen to be my fav colors but what better colors to use to celebrate love and Christmas in one ;) Oh and I forgot to mention how nervous I was giving this cake to Sally because she is a culinary student and makes way better goodies than me by far ;) Hopefully I didn't remind her too much of why people should go to culinary school instead of trying to teach themselves.... Again, congrats Sally and Zach!

S is for S-lacker

Ok well eventually I will show y'all some more creations.  I am behind because I have moved.  It is a bit difficult to bake when all your things are nicely packed away ;) Don't worry, there will be lots more to come.  Sorry though for not keeping up with posting.  I'm sure I have officially hit the boring mark. Hang in there, I promise, promise, promise, promise I will have things up and rolling shortly.  Thanks!!!

Cute As A Button

Another baby shower. Wow, Valentine's Day babies are on the way :) This cake was based off of the invite that had adorable onesies and buttons in the lime green and yellow.  I never really thought buttons were all that cute until now.  I love my buttons and hate to say they are the only thing I like about this cake.  Maybe I'm all yellowed out.... or maybe it's the silly bow..... yes, it's the bow.
Funny story about the bow.  Right before my mom took the cake she suggested the bow front be covered with something to get rid of the shiny appearance.  I said no but went ahead with it anyways.  Wrong move because the powder I used ended up sticking and looking more like paint than a nice translucent luster.  Good thing I took a picture of the cake before I last minute wrecked it.  Also good thing it was a donated cake.  I would've felt horrible if I had gotten paid.  So tacky!
I'm so excited I have another follower! Monica you made my day!  I have gotten a bit behind on my blogging mostly because I didn't think anyone really followed it but I am completely re-energized to keep on going.  Thanks for the boost.  Much, much needed!

T-i-double g-er

Bad Tigger! Bad Tigger! This was ridiculously hard to make and I'm still not sure how I survived the day.  Not only did Tigger decide to fall apart 3 times (AHHH!), my son Teagen decided his birthday was the day to be a total stinker. Two needy "Tiggs" makes for one exhausting day.  By noon I was ready to throw in the towel and buy a cake.  That would have been the ultimate let down for me so I mustered up enough energy to have one more go at fixing the dang thing.  It's all still a blur but somehow I managed to pull off the unthinkable. I'm glad he pulled himself together to save the day.  We overlooked the fact that his legs are crazy short and he has a beaver tail.  The birthday ended up being fun and Teagen loved his cake and presents. One birthday down, many more to go. :)

Fab Fabe

This cake was made for a going away party for one of my closest friends, Fabian.  Ramos Torres Winery, where she worked, hosted the party so the design has their logo and colors incorporated. I am really glad that it came out as smooth as it did.  Square cakes are a lot harder to cover than round ones so I was definitely worried. I love how simple this cake is but with the punch of color. I only wish my bow had turned out better.  One bad thing about gum paste is that once it dries it is done.  No going back and trying to fix the shape which unfortunately is what I needed to do for the bow. Oh well, I still love it and hopefully it helped give a great send off for someone so fabulous.
