September Showers

I love a September wedding.  The colors are wonderful and the weather is perfect, at least here in CA :) This cake was for a bridal shower. I wanted to do something simple and modern and not overly dramatic like a wedding cake.  I made the roses and leaves using a new fondant recipe I received, thanks Samantha!!  This recipe is so much easier to make and use.  The fondant doesn't dry out quickly like the other recipe I was using.  I think it is what helped me create such a more clean and better looking cake.  No more bumps or air bubbles thank goodness!

It's A Boy!!

Congrats to my wonderful sister Marta! She is having a baby boy, little Dexter, and we are soooo excited!  Now my little one will have a cousin closer by to play with.  Anyways, this cake was made for her shower to celebrate her bundle of joy.  I wanted to replicate the invitation so I really tried to make everything as similar as possible including the glitter placement.  My poor palm tree didn't survive the mission however so it ended up being a table decoration :( It would have made the cake look so much better especially since the monkey doesn't really have anything to hold onto....awkward.  I absolutely love my giraffe and am pretty proud of myself for being able to pull that off.  I free handed all of the gum paste characters and had a blast doing it.  I really enjoy the more artistic side of decorating and seeing what I can do.  It's a great feeling once everything is put together and the puzzle is complete.

In the Mood for Fall

Apparently buttercream and leaves do not mix. At least not yet :) Although it's not looking like fall for another month or so here in Cali I thought it would be fun to attempt something new.  My leaves are definitely way too thick and I still haven't figured out exactly what they remind me of.  I will keep you posted if it suddenly hits me in the middle of the night.

The Good The Bad & The Fugly

I'm alive. Barely.  It has been a rough last few weeks which is my blame for the following cakes.  It is really hard to make anything when you are not feeling good.  I completely lost any creativity I might have originally had.  My mother really saved me by helping with a few of them.

Lets start with the good and work our way down.  The good was supposed to be a football.  Can't you see it? My plan was to make a 49ers themed cake for Dustin's 29th birthday but due to sickness was completely unable to even put the candles on.  My mom made this cake.  It's a triple chocolate with a chocolate glaze.  I love the bundt pattern and we all had to laugh when we recited the lines from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  "A bun?" "No, a BUNDTTTT" "A bunnnn" "No, a BUNDTTTTTTTTTT" "I know! It's a cake!"  :) Love that movie.

The bad aka The Green Flan, a lily pad.... Definitely a sign I was losing it.  I could not for the life of me figure out what to do.  I just kept putting more and more frosting on.  I'm not really sure what I was thinking with the frosting on the board...

And the fugly:
No words can describe this one.  Let's just say I was not in the tie-dye mood.
